Mike’s Multiplying Onions

Description

These are a type of perennial clumping onion which can form a top set bulb. They are used as spring onions and are very tasty and reliable. The onions to be eaten are cut from the clump low down and the clump will keep growing. As clumps establish they can be divided and replanted.

Plant in fertile soil that has been enriched with well rotted manure or compost and is not waterlogged. They benefit from a fungal rich mulch. We use partially composted ramial wood chip if available. In the height of summer we use hoops and shade cloth to protect them from the intense sun.
